| PRIME TIMERS SARASOTA is a membership group. This organization was chartered in June 2001 and has grown to over 200 members of all ages. Our members come from the entire Suncoast area: Bradenton, Cape Coral, Ellenton, Ft Myers, Nokomis, Osprey, Palmetto, Sarasota, Venice and beyond.
Our steering committee is made up of 7 to 9 elected members who meet monthly to plan the next months events based upon some regularly scheduled events as well as members' input. Our monthly calendar provides a variety of activities which we strive to keep in an affordable range for everyone. Most events are held in members' homes and are open to members only. On occasion guests may attend with hosts approval and payment of a guest fee Our monthly meetings are on last Sunday of each month at the downtown Sarasota Selby Library. Guests are always welcome to attend. A Brief History of Prime TimersPrime Timers was founded in 1987 by retired professor Woody Baldwin. He recognized a wide gap existed in today’s society which caters almost exclusively to youth. This worship of eternal youth is never more flagrant than in the gay culture. Woody began the Boston Chapter by placing ads in local newspapers and soliciting his many friends. He expected only a small handful of men to attend the first meeting and was surprised when over 40 showed up. Woody took this as an indication of the need for social and cultural organizations to support the aging gay and bisexual man.
